Alzheimer’s Treatment Is Changing

Alzheimer’s Treatment Is Changing

According to Harvard Health, current Alzheimer’s treatments mainly fall into two groups:

1️⃣ **Symptom-management drugs**
Medicines such as donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, and memantine may help some patients manage memory, thinking, or daily function — but they do not stop the disease.

2️⃣ **New disease-slowing drugs**
Treatments like lecanemab target beta-amyloid plaques in the brain and may slow decline in selected early-stage Alzheimer’s patients.

As China enters an aging society, Alzheimer’s disease also has become an important public health challenge. In response, China is expanding its capacity in early diagnosis, neurology care, brain imaging, rehabilitation, and long-term disease management.

China’s advantages are increasingly clear:

✅ Access to advanced Alzheimer’s drugs such as lecanemab and donanemab
✅ Strong neurology and geriatrics departments in major hospitals
✅ Faster specialist consultations and diagnostic testing in many cities
✅ Integrated care options, including imaging, medication, rehabilitation, and follow-up
✅ Potentially more affordable care pathways for patients and families

But the key point is this:

These treatments are progress — not a miracle.

They may help slow decline, but they do not reverse Alzheimer’s. Patients still need early diagnosis, specialist evaluation, safety monitoring, family support, and long-term care planning.

The future of Alzheimer’s care is not just about one drug. It is about building a full care system — and China is becoming an increasingly practical option for patients seeking comprehensive Alzheimer’s care.
